Our blade in production
Our blade in production
🔥 Our VG-10 steel core is a premium stainless steel manufactured in Fukui, Japan. Its high carbon content (approximately 1% to 1.2%) gives VG-10 exceptional hardness and edge retention.
🔥 Our Damascus steel consists of different types of steel with very special material properties. Both soft and hard types of steel are welded together to create an exceptionally tough and hard material.
🔥 The composite steel is then heated to red hot in a furnace and pressed and forged together inseparably by hammer blows.
🔥 In a further step, 33 layers of forged Damascus steel are inseparably joined with Japanese VG-10 core steel on each side of the blade under heat and hammer blows.
🔥 Careful final polishing with chalk gives the Damascus steel its unforgettable sheen.
🔥 Our Damascus knives are NOT etched, so you can enjoy them for a lifetime with consistent aesthetics.
🔥 A radiantly shimmering surface whose artistic Damascus structure comes to life in relief when the light plays on it.

About the SKeld® brand
About the SKeld® brand
SKeld® – Where the rare meets its origin.
A good knife is a tool. A special knife becomes a companion.
SKeld® stands for exceptional materials, precise cutting performance, and the joy of holding something special in your hands.
Our name also conveys this idea:
SELD is linguistically derived from “seldom”—referring to what is rare and special. ✨
KELD is reminiscent of Old Norse and stands for “source” or “origin”—for nature, authenticity, and durability. 🌿
From these two concepts, SKeld® was born:
The rare meets the origin.
This connection is reflected in our knives. VG10 core steel and 67 layers of Damascus steel meet three distinctive handle materials:
🌳 Olive wood—warm, natural, and unique thanks to its individual grain.
🤍 Howlite—extraordinary and elegant with natural gray and black veins.
⚫ G10—modern, robust, and clean in appearance.
As different as the materials may be, they all follow the same idea: to combine nature, precision, and design.
🔪 Our Philosophy
We believe that exceptional Damascus knives don’t have to be overpriced.
That’s why we combine high-quality materials, meticulous craftsmanship, and timeless design with fair prices—for knives that will accompany you not just today, but for many years to come.
❤️ Because a knife is more than just steel and a handle.
It’s part of the moments that arise while cooking: while preparing, while enjoying, and while spending time together.

G10 – High-tech material for high-end knife handles
G10 combines modern materials technology with a well-thought-out knife design. The resin-based, glass-fiber-reinforced plastic is lightweight, exceptionally sturdy, and durable—properties that make it an ideal material for high-quality knife handles. In the Black Series and V2 Black Series, this high-quality technical material is paired with ergonomic design and precise craftsmanship.
Development & Manufacturing of G10
From Composite Material to Modern High-Tech Material
G10 is a glass-fiber-reinforced composite material designed to combine high strength with low weight and a durable surface. During manufacturing, multiple layers of glass-fiber fabric are impregnated with a resin system and then bonded together under controlled pressure and elevated temperature.
This multi-layered structure results in a dense, stable material whose properties are particularly well-suited for applications requiring high load-bearing capacity and durability. The characteristic black appearance of SKeld® knife handles also lends this technical material a clean and timeless aesthetic.
G10 as a Knife Handle – Advantages & Features
Lightweight, sturdy, and built for everyday use
G10 is an excellent choice, especially for knife handles. The material combines low weight with high mechanical stability and provides a durable foundation for a reliable grip, even with regular use.
💪 Exceptionally sturdy and durable
💧 Resistant to moisture
🧪 Resistant to many chemicals
⚖️ Lightweight and comfortable to hold
✋ Ergonomic shape for a secure grip and good force transfer
🖤 Simple, high-quality look in deep black
Combined with an ergonomic handle design, the result is a knife handle that fits comfortably in the hand and allows for controlled force transfer while cutting.
G10 in Everyday Life – Form Meets Craftsmanship
Designed for Demanding Applications
The unique properties of G10 make this material highly versatile. In addition to knife handles, glass-fiber-reinforced composites are used, for example, in technical components, in mechanical and equipment manufacturing, and in applications where low weight and high durability are required.
At SKeld®, G10 is specifically used for knife handles: In this knife handle, craftsmanship meets functionality. The modern material base allows for precise fabrication and combines the material’s technical durability with a comfortable, ergonomic handle design.
G10 at SKeld® – Technology You Can Feel in Your Hand
The black G10 handle of the Black Series
For the Black Series and V2 Black Series, G10 bridges the gap between modern material technology and functional knife design. The multi-layered, resin-based, glass-fiber-reinforced plastic ensures a lightweight, sturdy, and durable handle designed for everyday use.
The black finish underscores the knives’ modern character and creates a striking contrast to the Damascus blade. The result is a handle that not only impresses from a technical standpoint but also blends harmoniously with the distinctive SKeld® design.
G10 is more than just a handle material: It represents the fusion of materials science, functionality, and modern design. It is precisely this combination that makes the material a perfect choice for SKeld®’s Black Series and V2 Black Series.
Technology you don’t just see—you feel with every cut.

Round vs. octagonal knife handles
Direct comparison in terms of comfort, safety, and control
✅ Round knife handles – the better choice
- 🔪 Ergonomic hand adjustment
Fits naturally in your hand and ensures maximum control. - ✅ High comfort
Gentle curves relieve strain on the hand, even during prolonged use. - 🛡️ Greater security
Rounded transitions and finger protection reduce the risk of slipping. - ✨ Intuitive handling
Fits comfortably and securely in your hand—for complete control.
⚠️ Octagonal knife handles – clear disadvantages
- ⚠️ Increased risk of slipping
Angular shapes offer less grip when wet or under pressure. - ⚠️ Uncomfortable with common gripping techniques
Hard edges cause pressure points, especially with the pinch grip. - ⚠️ Limited flexibility
Not all gripping techniques can be performed comfortably. - ⚠️ Not intuitive
For many users, the form feels unfamiliar and uncertain. - ⚠️ Not suitable for all applications
Angular handles can make it difficult to control the knife when making fine cuts.
